Protect 6 Rules + Details
DEADLINE: 02/27
Protect 6 Rule: We encourage coaches to use a single age when putting together their protected players list and also allow them to protect a maximum of 6 players. This does include the coach(s) kids. This will allow them to develop players within a single age group and keep them each year without having to drop and add from their protected list as they move to older divisions.
If just protecting your child, you still need to complete this process so we don’t overlook any coaches kids when putting the draft together.
Procedure for protecting up to 6 players
- Complete the BECOME A COACH form, which will have a section to list your protected players. Make sure the first and last names are spelled correctly.
- All coaches: Complete your background check unless you’ve coached with Kids, Inc. recently and have a valid background authorization on file.
- If you’re not sure of the status of your background authorization through Kids, Inc., please contact the main office at 806-376-5936 or info@kidsinc.org.
- Make sure they are committed to being on your protected players list.
NOTE: PROTECTED PLAYERS DO NOT ATTEND EVALUATIONS AS THEY ARE PICKED FIRST BY THE COACH.
- Follow the COACH REGISTRATION steps listed on this page.
- Leave the “Protect 6” section blank. It is not required.
Volunteer coaches are the backbone of our program. Being a volunteer coach is demanding, but it can be very rewarding. It is really important to make sure they are having fun while learning. What they experience with you will leave a lasting impression that can make them hate the game or completely fall in love with it. No pressure, but you might be influencing a future MLB Hall of Fame player. “A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life”. If you don’t like what you see, volunteer. Please consider helping out and make a huge difference in our youth.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you are going to be a volunteer in any capacity, you will need to complete an annual background check. This includes coaching, helping with practices, games, team functions, etc. These are required by Babe Ruth and the city to use fields, as well as being a requirement per the Safe Sports Act of 2017. Once the registration is complete, you will receive an email that has the link to the proct youth sports background check procedure. There will also be a link on the website for the Protect Youth Sports background check in case you didn’t complete it during your registration. Since some coaches completed in the fall, we leave it optional on the coaches’ registration. That said, please understand this is required annually, and if someone is found to be coaching or volunteering at any capacity without completing one and getting passed confirmation, they will be suspended from participating in any TPYSF program.
