FAQs

About Kids Inc

How are registration fees set at Kids, Inc.?

Kids, Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. While we do not have to show a large profit at the end of the year or make money for shareholders, we do have to cover all of our costs. Program costs include field/court rentals, officiating, awards/trophies, credit card fees, insurance, registration expenses and administrative costs. Donations through business sponsorships and community support offset the costs to keep program costs affordable.

Kids, Inc. has only increased program fees twice in the past 15 years despite drastic price increases on sports equipment, T-shirts, and other costs necessary to run sports programs!

Coaches are volunteers… and heroes! Become a coach today.

What is the time commitment of a volunteer coach?

Coaches set practice schedules and games and meets vary by sport. Check out the Full Sports Menu to view dates and number of games.

Volunteer coach responsibilities: commit to contacting and setting up good communication with the parents Ensure all kids get playing time during practices and games.

The time commitment averages around 5-6 hrs per week for communication, practice, and games for a 4 or 5-week time frame.

If I'm approved as a volunteer coach, will I be assigned to my child's team?

When parents volunteer to coach, we will assign you to the team your child has been placed on, unless a coach has already been assigned to that team. In this case, you would have an option of assisting that coach or coaching your child at a different team or school, if one is available.

Visit our coaches page to learn more.

Can I request a certain coach?

Parents can request a coach, however, not all of them can be given. If a player has played for that coach previously and both coach and parent want to continue that relationship, we do allow it.

While it may not always be possible, we do our best to honor specific requests. After registration closes, our program coordinators get busy! They work their magic to form teams based on the High School, Middle School, or Elementary School cluster where you live, assign divisions, and create the rosters for the season.

Games & Schedules

How are Kids, Inc. practices scheduled?

Practice times and locations are set by the coach.

For outdoor sports: City parks and middle school fields are first come first serve basis. If using a middle school field, it is asked that practices start after 6:00

For basketball and volleyball: Teams can practice in AISD elementary school gyms throughout the season. Teams are assigned gyms by our staff at Kids, Incorporated on a first come basis. Every team will be allowed a minimum of 1 hour per week (M-Th) either one hour twice a week or two hours once a week for most of our seasons. Kids, Inc. works with AISD on gym availability according to their schedules. Coaches set gym times as they come to pick up their coach’s packets for volleyball and basketball.

If a game is canceled due to inclement weather, will it be made up?

We do our very best to make up games that are canceled, but due to several factors that are out of our control, this is not always possible.

How long are the sports seasons?

Our programs vary in length depending on the time of year and type of program. Visit our play page to see what’s open for registration and season details.

Once registration is open for sports, the staff at Kids, Inc. work tirelessly to place kids on a team, recruit coaches, and create schedules. We understand that plans change, but when parents/guardians decide not to play, this often creates challenges with teams not having enough to play, and re-organizing schedules and coaches to accommodate.

How long are the sports seasons?

Our programs vary in length depending on the time of year and type of program. Visit our play page to see what’s open for registration and season details.

Registration

What happens after I register for a sport?

The Kids, Inc. registration process has four key steps: registration, team formation, scheduling, and season play!

Registration: Sign up for your desired program through the online registration site.
Team Formation: After registration closes, the Kids, Inc. program coordinators get busy! They work their magic to form teams based on the High School, Middle School, or Elementary School cluster you live in, recruit volunteer coaches, and create the rosters for the season. There is a waiting period while this happens.
Scheduling: Once teams are formed, the schedules for games are released.
Season Play: Parents/Guardians will be contacted by the coach with all the details about practices, games, and what to expect during the season.

Looking for specific dates? Check out the Full Sports Menu and Scheduling Pages for more details.

We look forward to seeing you on the field!

Important info to know:
* In some cases, teams and coaches are finalized the week before games start depending on the availability of coaches and team formation.
** If the contact information you provide during registration is incorrect, coaches and Kids, Inc. staff will not be able to reach you to communicate games, weather updates, etc.

When can I expect to see my game schedules?

Schedules are published on the website by Wednesday before games start. We understand this might not always be ideal, but it allows us enough time to finalize teams and coaches before creating the game schedule.

Games Start dates are listed for each sport on the Full Sports Menu.

All game schedules are conveniently posted on our website.

We do our best to get you the information you need as soon as possible!

Can I pick the number on my child's shirt?
