West Texas Youth Baseball  League

COMPETITIVE LEAGUE PLAY

West Texas Youth Baseball League is a “bring your own team” competitive league that provides competitive play for select teams ages 9U–14U, focusing on player development in a true game setting. League play allows teams to grow without the pressure of “win-or-advance” tournament formats, giving players the freedom to work through challenges and develop skills across multiple positions.

While tournaments are exciting, consistent league games are essential for long-term growth. We work hard to accommodate team tournament schedules whenever possible.

Established in 2003, the West Texas Youth Baseball League is a team-based league designed to support player development through consistent, competitive league play. This league is not an individual player sign-up program.

Effective 8/12/26
USSSA will implement new rules regarding grade exception players. There will be a limit of 3 grade-exception players per team.

USSSA National By-laws and Rules

Please review the division age requirements carefully. Registration is based on your child’s age by a specific cutoff date, not their current age. Registering in the wrong division could result in missing a spot if the correct division fills. Questions? Email baseball@kidsinc.org.

Flexible Scheduling Options

10U and older teams may choose a full-season (14 games) or half-season (7 games) schedule.

  • Games are scheduled Monday–Thursday, leaving Friday–Sunday open for tournaments.
  • This format also preserves practice time during the week.

We strongly encourage teams to play as many league games as possible. League play benefits not only your team’s development, but also strengthens baseball across our region and helps prepare players for high school tryouts.

Tournament-Friendly Accommodations

Teams may list open weekends on the blackout form.

These openings may be used for optional games, helping relieve weekday schedules and support teams seeking more weekend play.

Game days listed apply to West Texas teams ages 9U–14U.

Why League Play Matters

League games provide a true game environment where players can:

  • Work through challenges
  • Learn multiple positions
  • Grow without the pressure of standings or advancement

While tournaments are exciting, league play is essential for long-term growth. We appreciate coaches and parents who continue to value these opportunities.

FAQ

When are practices?

Coaches get their practice locations lined up and set their own practice schedules after getting with parents and seeing what works best for the team.

Is my child's spot on a team guaranteed?

No. West Texas Youth Baseball League is a “Bring your own team” league. Coaches recruit players, often hosting tryouts before team registration.

Amarillo Area Youth Baseball League and Canyon Baseball Association offer individual player registration. These leagues host evaluations, and coaches draft their roster. All paid players are guaranteed a spot on a team.
